The 94th US PGA Championship Gets Underway

It’s come around so quickly I can’t actually believe it, but golf’s last major of the year is here and it got underway today as the Italian Matteo Manassero struck the opening tee shot to launch the first morning of the 94th US PGA Championship.

Under clear blue skies the 19 year old pulled the three wood from his bag, settled the nerves and struck his shot down the left hand side of the fairway of the tenth hole on the Ocean Course here at Kiawah Island. With the breeze slightly up it isn’t going to be the easiest of conditions.

European hopes are high, especially the British ones after being inspired by the Olympic heroics back in Blighty, a lot of of players have said they’ve been inspired by the amazing performances.

Let’s hope the European golfer’s have a more pleasant time than when the European Ryder Cup found themselves in a battle not only against 12 fantastic golfers but against a hostile crowd back in 1991. The tussle was aptly named ‘War On The Shore’ and if you remember it was Bernard Langer who had the chance to retain the cup for the European Team but missed that short putt on the last to lose the cup the Americans.

Whatever happens i’m sure it will be a great tournament, I will certainly be watching as much as I can.
